Tasting the #DeliCommunityMenu at Indigo Deli, Bandra
Last Monday evening, I was one of the eight FBAI invitees to taste the Deli Community Menu at Indigo Deli, Bandra. When I reached there, the place was abuzz with my blogger friends already! I took no time to settle myself and be a part of the community table, surrounded with people who share the same passion.
We were served the beverage pitchers to spice up our conversation. I first tasted the Virgin Sangria, which was not as interesting as their Virgin Watermelon and Basil Mojito. The Vanilla Iced Coffee and the Green Apple and Cinnamon Iced Tea were quite refreshing.
Best beverages to try: Virgin Watermelon and Basil Mojito and Vanilla Iced Coffee. All the beverages in the Deli Community Menu were non-alcoholic.
So if you are thinking of a cozy get-together with friends or family, you must check out the Deli Community Menu at Indigo Deli. The Community Table is for groups of six to twelve people and believe me, it does justice to your hard-earned money! The dishes on offer are fabulous (they have Norwegian salmon too!) and the sharing menu offers unlimited portions of food at just Rs. 899! But I wanted to check out the portions, first of all. Are they serving enough portions? Let’s find out.
The much-talked-about Community Meal soon followed. We kicked off with the zesty Creamy Potato with Garlic Chive Bistou: a potato soup so comforting that you can very well enjoy it even without bacon.
Next came a variety of salads. There were a lot of great flavours and textures in those. It was a vibrant mix of greens and all things healthy! The salad leaves were perfectly fresh and crunchy: but the dressing could have been a bit more. Although all the salads were tasty, in each of these, there was a tad too much of the same kind of salad leaves in comparison to the other ingredients in the salads. This was the reason, the salads were not tasting considerably different from each other.
According to me, the flavours of the Citrus Salad and the Panzanella were better than the others in offer in the Community Menu. We also served the Grilled vegetables and Greens and Ceasars Salad. Since it was a community table and each of one had different preferences, the chef served us the chicken and the bacon separately.
Sufficient to make anyone salivate, they have great pizzas in the menu. I loved each one of them. The toppings were quite different from each other.
My favourites were the Mushroom and Spinach Pizza and the BBQ Chicken and Cheddar Pizza.
The Spanish Chorizo and the Sundried Tomato, Olives and Capers Pizza were also very good. Each of these pizzas had an eclectic marriage of ingredients and flavours.
The pizza bases were thin crust and totally non-soggy. In fact, they crackled!
Best pizza to try: All the four.
The mains were delicious and the portions were huge. The Onion Seed Crusted Norwegian Salmon was generously served with an interesting combo of Fenugreek Pulav, Buttered Beans and Chilli Oil. The salmon tasted yum, but I would have loved it more, had there not been too much of those nigella seeds.
The vegetarian risotto was outstanding. I would strongly recommend this dish for you! Make sure you taste Indigo Deli’s Risotto of Braised Fennel, Cherry Tomato and Saffron with Anise Butter. You will love this!
Not full yet? They will serve you huge portions of pasta, then. The Farfalle with Three Mushroom Ragout and the Fusilli in Pesto Cream with Toasted Almonds and Fried Leeks were great.
Be a little more adventurous and try their Risotto of Harissa Sunchokes or Fish and Chips with Tartar Sauce. I skipped these two and settled myself for some Sea Salt Grilled Chicken with Red Wine Jus, Mashed Potatoes and Roasted Vegetables. It looked lovely and tasted yum too!
I was already full, but their spread of desserts made me somehow save a little space for their Hazelnut Mousse Cake, which was such a tempting treat! The chocolate ganache cake was tasty but a bit dense. Blueberry Cheesecake? Yes, please!
Indigo Deli’s ice creams are quite popular. As I relished spoonful of the Blueberry and Mint Ice Cream as I got up to leave, I promised myself to try the Rum n Raisin ice cream on my next visit very soon!
